CLEANINGS

Professional dental cleaning is needed to remove plaque and tartar which can remain on your teeth even after properly brushing and flossing. Plaque that remains turns into tartar and if not removed effectively by a dental cleaning is the main cause of tooth decay and gum disease. Depending on your unique situation, we may recommend a cleaning every 3, 4, or 6 months. We will clean your teeth to remove any plaque or tartar and then polish them to remove some staining on teeth. X-rays will be taken at least yearly and the doctor will recommend any treatment if needed. They hygienist will also perform an oral cancer screening at each visit.

FILLINGS

Fillings are necessary when decay has been detected via x-ray or visual examination. The doctor will remove the decay and restore the affected area with either a composite filling material (white) or an amalgam filling material (silver).

Crowns are a tooth shaped covering that is placed over your natural tooth to strengthen and protect your tooth. It seals out plaque and bacteria and prevents further decay. After determination that a crown is right for you, you and the doctor will discuss the best crown for your situation, taking into concern function, aesthetics, and budget concerns. Crowns consist of at least two appointments.

PERIODONTICS

Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. It is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Because gum disease is usually painless, you may not know you have it. At regular check-up, yearly the hygienist or dentist will measure the depth of the shallow v-shaped crevice between your tooth and gums to identify whether you have gum disease. Periodontal diseases attack just below the gum line where they can cause the attachment of tooth and supporting tissues to break down.

Gingivitis is the beginning stage of gum disease; the gums become red, swollen and bleeds easily.

Meet Your Doctor

Dr. Lyman earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University (but don’t hold that against him…he says he’s about to become U of A’s biggest fan). After he graduated from ASU, Summa Cum Laude he was accepted into Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health where he earned his Certificate of Public Health with a Dental Emphasis and became a Doctor of Dental Medicine.

He is always interested in continued education, and is committed to knowing the best and most current techniques, treatments and technologies available. Not only because this is the industry he loves, but because he knows his patients expect unparalleled care and he expects that of himself too.

Dr. Lyman loves serving in the community and has volunteered at multiple events including “Give Kids a Smile”, “AZ Mission of Mercy”, and “Day for Special Smiles.” He especially enjoyed a trip to Mexico with “Latin World Ministries” where he provided free dental care to remote populations there. If you can’t tell, Dr. Lyman loves people and dentistry!

After graduating from dental school Dr. Lyman took an internship in Galveston, TX to further his experience in oral surgery, especially extracting wisdom teeth. From there he worked in a private practice providing general dentistry to people of all ages. Aside from oral procedures, he especially loves working with children.

Dr. Lyman has spent most of his life in Arizona. Before attending college, he spent 2 years in Mississippi as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he learned to speak Spanish. When he and his wife (a native Arizonan) learned a dental practice was available in Tucson Arizona, they jumped at the opportunity to move their family back home. In their free time, you can usually find the Lyman’s (including their 3 children…soon to be 4) exploring local attractions, attending sporting or cultural events, playing at a park, hiking, swimming or riding bikes.

We are very excited for you to meet Dr. Lyman, we know you are going to love him!

Called yesterday about a broken tooth, got an appt this morning, and I’m fixed up and out of there less than an hour later. That’s pretty incredible in today’s healthcare world, and I am very grateful to the staff and doctor at this office.
